    Anthony "John" Ficek

A celebration of life was held April 21 for Anthony "John" Ficek of Springfield, who died April 16 of a congenital heart valve defect. He was 36.

He was born Feb. 7, 1968, in Eugene to Thomas and Kathlene Shephard Ficek. He married Shelly Smith in Eugene on Sept. 10, 1988.

John was a graduate of Pleasant Hill High School. He was employed as a lead salesman in the brush division and as a machine operator for Rose Logging Inc.

John loved hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband and father, loving son and brother to his family. A Christian man who loved life and being one with nature, he was an avid sportsman who could bring joy and laughter to those around him. He was blessed in his life's work and enjoyed a wonderful fellowship with his co-workers. But his greatest joy and source of pride came from his wife and children. John was very loved by his large family and wealth of friends. His smile and laughter will be missed, but his memories and light will sustain us.

Survivors include his parents; his wife; three sons, Chad, Chase and Colton, all of Springfield; and a brother, Jess of Creswell.

Buell Funeral Chapel in Springfield was in charge of arrangements.
