Regional Destination Imagination Tournament THIS Saturday, March 12th!
Destination ImagiNation is an after-school program for students in grades 1 through 12 in Pleasant Hill. Joan Hladky, a retired Pleasant Hill teacher, coordinates the program and is also a Regional Director for the program in Oregon. The program offers students opportunities to expand their creativity, their ability to work as a team, and their ability to use problem-solving skills. They work with both Instant Challenges--one that have to be solved in 5 minutes, and long-term team challenges. They share their solutions at a Regional Tournament which is held usually the first Saturday in March. For 2014, it will be March 8th. Pleasant Hill hosts this tournament.

At the Southern Regional Tournament held at Pleasant Hill Elementary School on March 14, 2015, the Pleasant Hill teams did well. Congratulations to the Pleasant Hill DI teams for their performances on Saturday at the Regional Tournament. The Middle Level team, the "Smiley Nerdy Waffles," had difficulties to overcome with the Prep period for their performance but they came out like real professionals and gave one of the best performances they have done. They didn't place as well as they hoped, but they demonstrated persistence and graciousness in the face of adversity. Team members are Lily Bonomo, Karly Granas, Angelee Cobiskey, and Sariah Carillo. The Secondary level team, the "20% Right-Handed" had a successful day—gaining great laughs from appraisers and audience during their performance of "The Improv Games," and giving them first place and an invitation to State. They also won a special Renaissance Award for their performance in Instant Challenge, one of only 4 of these awards for the entire tournament. Team members are Jesika Leonard, Balreet Pawar, Sophie Doleman, and Lisa Jas.
The Elementary teams, "The White Tigers" and "The Path to Twilight" are also going to the State Championship, which will be held at Sprague High School on April 11, 2015.
As you can read about LAST year's team, they went on to the Global Finals.
