Peer Mediation is a school wide program that encourages positive and healthy conflict resolution through peer directed conversation between disputants. Students leading the peer mediation have met the continuous training requirements and are prepared to lead their fellow peers to a mutual, unbiased, resolution.
The mediations are confidential, though peer mediators are required to report any illegal or harmful activities such as drug or alcohol use or possession, weapon possession, and/or abuse or harassment of any kind.
The process builds confidence in students and problem-solving skills, both for the mediators and the disputants because mediators ask the disputants to suggest solutions until negotiations lead to an agreement on how to settle the conflict.
This student-lead program seeks to establish respectful communication & conflict resolution skills among our entire student-body, increasing a healthier school climate where all are welcomed and supported.
